Real Madrid wanted to control things this time with Kylian Mbappe, but let the French star decide when to announce the deal. The 25-year-old striker is unlikely to leave this until after he joins the France camp for the European Championships.
Mbappe did not enjoy the last few weeks in Paris, as per Brand, who say that his status has changed since Paris Saint-Germain announced that he will leave the club in early February. Since then, he has been dropped on several occasions, and manager Luis Enrique has been able to speak openly about preparing for life without him.
Given some of the battles Mbappe and his side have had with CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi, including missing his pre-season tour last summer, they had predicted it could become a tense situation. As such, Real Madrid they decided to let Mbappe decide the timing of the announcement of his deal, to make the situation as easy as possible for him.
His presentation date is up in the air as a result, but the announcement comes before the Euros, and not before PSG is eliminated from the Champions League.
If PSG were to reach the finals in Europe, they could make that turnaround pretty tight, but that's presumably a bridge to cross when they get there. Next week, Mbappe and PSG go into their quarter-final clash with Barcelona, and despite this tension, Mbappe is undoubtedly still ready to try and deliver PSG their first Champions League.
