Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori this summer, according to the Italian outlet. TUTTOmercatoWEB.
After a promising campaign under Ange Postecoglou this season, the Lilywhites plan to spend money in the next window to strengthen the squad and continue the rebuild.
The Australian manager is reportedly keen to strengthen several areas, including centre-forward and engine room, but signing a new defender is also on his wish list.
According to the report of TUTTOmercatoWEBTottenham are exploring the Italian market to sign a new defender having recently bought Radu Dragusin from Genoa and identifying Calafiori as a serious target.
The report further claims that Bologna could be willing to cash in on the Italian if they receive an offer of around £17m so that Spurs can acquire his service for an affordable price should they formalize their interest during the off-season.
Calafiori to Tottenham
However, TUTTOmercatoWEB claims that securing the signing of Calafiori will not be easy for the north London club, with Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan also interested in buying him, although the Rossoneri have already contacted Bologna for details of his signing.
Calafiori, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall, is comfortable playing at center back and left back. He is fast, strong, excellent in the air, comfortable playing from the back, has a good eye for long distance passes and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
After joining Bologna from FC Basel last summer, the 21-year-old has already shown flashes of his qualities in Serie A this season. North Londoners will therefore hope that he can replicate the same performance in the first division if he joined the club.
Postecoglou likes to deploy a left-footed centre-back on the left side of the defence, but has no other option than Micky van de Ven to do so, so Calafiori could be an excellent option to support the Dutchman should he be signed.
However, it will be interesting to see if the Lilywhites ultimately opt to take a concrete approach to acquiring the Italian's service in the next window to bolster their defensive line.
