Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has vindicated Erik ten Hag's decision to start him against Wolves by opening the scoring at Molineux.

The Red Devils striker took just five minutes to break the tie in what was his first appearance since his drunk night in Belfast last week.

Rashford was dropped from Sunday's FA Cup fourth round victory at Newport, but Ten Hag decided to name him in his line up for Thursday night's clash at Molineux.

And he instantly restored the Dutchman's faith, as, after conceding a goal from Rasmus Hojlund, he jumped towards the far corner from outside the area.

The England international now has five goals in the Premier League this season in his 21st game in the top flight.

In all competitions, he has scored three goals in five games and provided two assists.

Many fans were disappointed with ten witches about his decision to start it, after Rashford called into training because he was sick after his drunken break.

But United have no problem with the player moving on, having stated that 'has taken responsibility for his actions'.

Following the incident, the 26-year-old is believed to have been fined £650,000. United – the equivalent of two weeks' salary.

However, if he maintains his purple streak in front of goal, he can be sure that the Red Devils faithful will turn a blind eye to his disciplinary issues.

Things quickly improved for United when Rasmus Hojlund doubled the visitors' lead in the 22nd minute.

The Danish striker finished off a deflected delivery from Luke Shaw to send the ball home.

Having not scored a goal in the Premier League until the winning goal in the Boxing Day thriller against Aston Villa, he has now scored three consecutive games in the top flight.
