A second source has claimed that Luka Modric is interested in Real Madrid next season, following months of speculation over his future. The 38-year-old Croatian is out of contract in the summer, and it had been assumed that losing his starting role would result in his exit, but that no longer appears to be the case.
Monday morning, it appeared that Modric would be open to staying to Los Blancos next year, and Brand have supported these reports. They say Modric has realized that while he prefers to play more, he doesn't need to start every game to be an important player. That said, he wants to know that he will have an important and useful role next season to stay next season.
Having come this far, Modric's main problem is this Real Madrid they have not yet contacted regarding their future. He is waiting to sit down with Real Madrid, but he will not be short of alternatives if he goes elsewhere, with the interest of Dinamo Zagreb and Saudi Arabia.
Modric is Real Madrid's 13th most used player this season, but is usually used as an impact substitute or a rotating piece. El Clasico was the first big game to start since Real Madrid's La Liga derby loss against Atletico Madrid, but Modric didn't look off the pace.
