'This reeks of arrogance': Martin Keown clashes with Manchester City fan who calls Arsenal legend a burk
Arsenal legend Martin Keown was hit with a stick by a Manchester City fan after hitting in the win over Brighton.
Keown appeared on the White & Jordan Show on talkSPORT, where he hit out at Brighton for “overturning” in their 4-0 defeat to City on Wednesday night.
This sparked fury among City fans, with supporter Anthony calling to tell the former defender what he thought.
“I just want to say that I usually completely agree with you every week on whatever topic you bring up,” he told Keown, sitting alongside Jim White and Simon Jordan in the talkSPORT studio.
“But you sound like a real idiot today!”
Keown responded amid the laughter of Jordan and White: “No, no. Look, I'm not taking anything away from Man City and their way of playing.
“But what were you really up against last night? Honestly. How naive were Brighton?”
Anthony replied: “Do you have the pacifier in the stroller because that's what it sounds like? Does this happen with Arsenal when they beat teams? Do you say that about their team that they turn around for Arsenal?”
White then asked the City fan if he thought the title was tied back to the Etihad, which he said seemed inevitable, sparking fury from Keown.
“Arrogance,” said the Arsenal legend. “Arrogance. When you're winning everything, don't forget how hard all those years were for you when you weren't winning anything.
“Have a bit of respect for the other teams that are trying to win something, don't you? I applaud everything Manchester City is doing.
“I think their football is magnificent, but it smacks of arrogance. Who is the burk now?”
City defeated Brighton 4-0 at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday night and the Seagulls were often the perpetrators of their own downfall.
The Premier League champions were one point behind Arsenal, who remain leaders but have played one more game than Pep Guardiola's men.
City are now favorites to win a fourth consecutive title, especially after Liverpool capitulated in the Merseyside derby after losing 2-0 to Everton.
