Marco Reus unlikely to extend contract at Borussia Dortmund

Marco Reus’s 12-year stint at Borussia Dortmund will likely come to an end in the summer with it looking unlikely that he will extend his contract at the club, reports Sport Bild.

The 34-year-old has become dissatisfied with his playing time and has made this clear to head coach Edin Terzic as he has been left on the bench several times. Reus’ lack of playing time has also resulted in his relationship with Terzic deteriorating.

This has meant that Dortmund are leaning towards not extending the contract of Reus. The recent appointment of Lars Ricken as Sports CEO also does not help Reus’ case for a potential extension due to Terzic’s position as manager strengthening.

Reus played a key role in the arrivals of Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender as Terzic’s assistant coaches in the winter after holding a conversation with sporting director Sebastian Kehl on the issue.

This means that a possible last game for Reus is the Champions League final in London on the 1st of June. If Dortmund fail to get past PSG, it will be against Damrstadt on May 18th.
