However, ten Hag believes he will remain in charge at Old Trafford despite new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe giving him no public assurances over his future.

The Dutchman is reluctant to hold formal talks with Bayern until his position at Old Trafford is clarified.

The injury-hit Red Devils have fallen to eighth in the Premier League standings ahead of Monday's clash at Crystal Palace. live on talkSPORT.

Ten Hag joined Man United from Dutch club Ajax in the summer of 2022 and during his tenure, the 13-time Premier League winners experienced many ups and downs.

His first season was a qualified success: he returned the club to the Champions League, won the Carabao Cup and reached the FA Cup final.

However, this season has presented many challenges, with Man United finishing bottom of their Champions League group and their Carabao Cup defense ending with a 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

And their form in the league has been a huge cause for concern, with Man United currently eighth in the Premier League and unable to finish in the top four.

Not being able to get European football is a risk as Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham are in a better position to get European football or the Conference League ahead of them.

Manchester United have conceded 51 goals in the Premier League this season and have lost 12 of their 34 games.

As well as poor form on the pitch, there have been bad headlines as Ten Hag had a high-profile falling out with the £73m signing of Jadon Sancho, who is doing a good job rebuilding his career on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, there has been no public suggestion from minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe that Ten Hag will be manager next season.
