Bild reports that Werder Bremen defender Christian Groß, who will retire at the end of the season, has already found a new job at Bayer Leverkusen.
At the Bundesliga champions, Groß will become a scout. The 35-year-old was expected to take up a director role at Bremen but decided to pursue a different path.
Groß has experience in scouting as he undertook a scouting internship while with Bremen’s under-23s and liked it.
The 35-year-old has had an interesting career spending most of his time in the 3.Liga and Regionalliga before being called up by Bremen head coach Ole Werner to the senior side, making his Bundesliga debut at 30. Since then he has played a key role in Bremen earning promotion back to the Bundesliga and in their seasons where they have retained their Bundesliga status.
Leverkusen will be one of the better places for Groß to learn how to be a scout as Die Werkself has developed a reputation for being able to sign younger players for more modest fees.
