Tottenham Hotspur is reported to be in a battle with manchester united on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Odilon Kossounou this summer, according to the Spanish outlet Transfers.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign this season as he helped his team win the Bundesliga title as invincible and also guided his team to reach the final of the European League and DFB Cup. Furthermore, the Ivory Coast international played a key role in helping his country win the AFCON earlier this year.

So it seems that having shown his qualities for club and country this season, Kossounou has started to attract a lot of attention from a number of top clubs in Europe, with Tottenham and Man Utd among those who have registered their interest.

According to the report of TransfersTottenham are interested in signing a new centre-back this summer and have “set their sights” on the 23-year-old.

However, the report claims that Bayer Leverkusen are in a strong position to demand a huge fee to let their star player go as he still has two years left on his current contract. Spurs will therefore have to spend a considerable amount of money to buy the African, who is valued at around £30m per Transfer market.

Transfers He also claims that Man Utd have also shown “significant” interest in signing Kossounou and are currently one of the clubs leading the race to complete this deal. Therefore, the Lilywhites could find it extremely difficult to sign their key target to bolster their backline.

However, the Spanish outlet says that, apart from Man Utd and Tottenham, Liverpool, real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also expressed their intentions to sign him this summer.

The Leverkusen star, who is 6ft 3in tall, has characteristics of a central defender, but can also play the right-back role. He is fast, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing from the back and also efficient in defensive contributions.

Therefore, he could be a shrewd signing for Man Utd or Tottenham if either club buys him. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils will eventually manage to secure the African's signature by defeating Tottenham in this race, considering they are reportedly the favorites at the moment.
