‘The motivation couldn’t be greater’ – Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes ahead of Europa League final

Bayer Leverkusen set off from Cologne/Bonn Airport on Tuesday morning bound for Dublin ahead of their Europa League final against Atalanta. Spirits were high as Simon Rolfes confirmed a “good” and “relaxed” atmosphere.

That is of course because Die Werkself had already wrapped up the Bundesliga title in April and after 2-1 win against Augsburg at the weekend, confirmed an unbeaten season. What’s more impressive is that Bayer remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, with two finals remaining: Atalanta in the Europa League, and Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal.

Speaking at Cologne/Bonn Airport upon arrival, Rolfes said there’s a “good mix of tension and relaxedness,” because “We have achieved the most important goal of winning the championship. Now we can give it our all [to win two finals].”

Bayer Leverkusen lifted their first ever Bundesliga title and are playing in their first European cup final since 2002, and with a DFB Pokal final on Saturday night, Rolfes added that “the motivation couldn’t be greater.”
