As previously reported, Bayern Munich are showing significant interest in Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany. However, there are question marks surrounding why Der Rekordmeister are looking to appoint a head coach with a relegation on their CV.
Nevertheless, according to Bild, Kompany has been a top candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel since it was announced that the two would part ways at the end of the campaign. While Bayern prioritised more experienced head coaches after Tuchel’s departure, they are now hoping for a young and ambitious head coach to take over at the Allianz Arena.
Why Vincent Kompany?
It is understood that Max Eberl and key individuals behind the scenes at Bayern consider Kompany to be one of the most talented young head coaches in world football. Having gained experience in Belgium with Anderlecht, Kompany guided Burnley to the Premier League while playing eye-catching football in the Championship.
Despite having failed to keep Burnley in the English top flight this season, there is belief amongst those in Bavaria that Kompany will be able to adapt to a top job. The former Manchester City defender has worked under a number of world-class coaches, such as Pep Guardiola, during his time in England, and Bayern view this as a key asset.
There is an understanding that Kompany has learned a significant amount from his previous coaches, and the Belgian will be able to apply his tactical knowledge effectively to the Bayern squad. While it will be a risk for the record champions, they view it similar to Bayer Leverkusen’s appointment of Xabi Alonso, as they look to build their own project at the Allianz Arena.
