In addition to Kompany's stellar playing career, in which he captained Manchester City to four Premier League titles and six domestic cups, the former defender has attracted attention since taking over as manager.
Kompany helped Burnley gain automatic promotion from the Championship in his first campaign, before suffering relegation from the Premier League after picking up just 24 points to finish 19th.
While the season did not end as the Clarets would have hoped, Kompany received praise for his possession-based, attack-minded approach to the game, something that would no doubt go down well in Munich.
