Wembley Stadium is preparing for the Champions League final showdown between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund with the necessary repairs and improvements.

The Football Association (FA) of England announced a £5 million investment to improve security measures and infrastructure at Wembley Stadium to prevent a repeat of the violence witnessed during the Euro 2020 final. Ahead of hosting the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, an independent review highlighted more than 20 “near misses” during the Euro 2020 final, leading to significant safety improvements. Problems were also reported at the venues for the 2022 and 2023 Champions League finals in Paris and Istanbul. To ensure safety, officials promised a rigorous plan of security checks and digital ticketing.

Chris Bryant, FA director of tournaments and events, emphasized efforts to ensure a smooth arrival process and a positive experience for fans attending the Champions League final. Lessons learned from previous events were applied, including increased deployment of hostesses, reinforced stadium gates and extended entry times for fans. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, measures have been implemented to address the shortage of hostesses experienced during the Euro 2020 final. The FA is confident in the effectiveness of these measures to mitigate potential safety risks and provide a safe environment for spectators at the Champions League final.
