It is that time of the year again, when rumours run wild and fans wait with anticipation to see who might join their club.

For other fans it is a nervous wait, as they sit hoping their best player will stay and continue to build.

Yes, the Premier League transfer window is officially open and there has already been a wave of rumours as clubs are linked with all manner of players.

Newcastle United have already announced their first bit of summer business. Though they did not have to wait for the window to open as they signed Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer that will go through in July.

Fans may have to wait a little longer to see who may join their club though as the small matters of Euro 2024 and the Copa America takes the attention of top stars across Europe and South America respectively.

When will the transfer window close?

The Premier League transfer window officially opened on July 14, 2024 giving clubs the opportunity to strengthen their squads where they see fit.

Transfer deadline day has been moved this year in order to bring the Premier League in line with other leagues around Europe.

This means the window will officially slam shut on Friday, 30 August 2024 at 11pm UK time.

What about the Premier League’s profitabilty and sustainability rules?

Before transfer deadline day there are a number of clubs that will have another date circled on their calendar.

That is because teams will have to show they are PSR compliant by Sunday, 30 June.

Last season saw Everton and Nottingham Forest face point deductions for PSR breaches and there are some clubs who will be hoping they can avoid the same fate.

It is thought that Aston Villa, Newcastle and Leicester are among a number of clubs under pressure to offload players by the aforementioned date in order balance their sheets.

What deals were completed before the window opened?

Tosin Adarabioyo agreed to join to Chelsea on a free transfer ahead of the window opening

Eddie Howe signed Lloyd Kelly for the second time in his career as the defender joined Newcastle on a free deal

As mentioned before, a number of clubs have already made their mark in the transfer market before the window officially opened as they signed players on free deals.

Perhaps the biggest deal ahead of the window was Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo joining rivals Chelsea as they held off a late swoop by Manchester United.

West Ham have also made an early move as they completed the £19.2m signing of Palmeiras’ Luis Guilherme on a five year deal.

Wolves also wasted no time in getting their summer dealings underway as they agreed a 12.7m deal to sign Rodrigo Gomes from Braga.
