Sergio Ramos will leave Sevilla later this month when his contract expires.

The 38-year-old defender re-joined his former side on a one-year deal in the summer of 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

Sevilla confirmed in a statement on Monday that Ramos has informed them that he will not be extending his stay “after fulfiling his dream of returning to the club” where he broke through.

“Sevilla FC would like to thank Sergio Ramos for his commitment, leadership and the utmost dedication he has shown this season, wishing him the best of luck in his next professional challenge,” the La Liga side said.

“Sergio Ramos will say goodbye publicly this Tuesday at 11.00 am in the press room of the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, accompanied by the president, Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco.”

The Athletic reported last month that MLS expansion side San Diego FC were in advanced talks with Ramos over a potential transfer, with the expectation that Ramos would be a designated player if he signs.

Ramos progressed through Sevilla’s youth academy before joining Real Madrid in 2005, going on to spend 16 years at the club and becoming one of their most iconic players in their history. The Spaniard left in 2021 and spent two seasons at PSG, making 58 appearances before departing last summer.

Ramos made 37 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla during the 2023-24 season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist. Sevilla’s disappointing league campaign saw them finish in 14th place, eight points above the relegation zone.
