Dan Friedkin's Everton takeover takes big step towards completion as parties enter exclusivity period

The Friedkin Group has entered a period of exclusivity to buy Everton, talkSPORT understands.

Due diligence is now underway for the Premier League club's equity buyout.

Last week, talkSPORT reported on the Everton owner. Farhad Moshiri had accepted an offer from US-backed buyers.

The deal is not yet closed, but all parties now hope that the diligence process will result in a smooth sale.

It is understood that the intention of interested buyers is to want to move forward in weeks, not months.

The Friedkin group will remain committed to Serie A Romathe other club that Freidkin general manager Dan Friedkin bought in 2020.

They are understood to be concerned about Everton and Roma co-existing under UEFA rules in the future.

Friedkin sits on the board of directors of the European Club Association and is part of the ECA joint venture with UEFA.

Moshiri, who has been the majority owner of Toffees since 2018, reached a deal to sell his 94.1 per cent stake to the group last September.

There has been growing concern about 777 and its operations and doubts about his ability to provide long-term financing for Everton.

The exclusivity period between the parties then ended, leaving Moshiri free to negotiate with other potential buyers.

Everton were docked a total of eight points last season for twice breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

An initial penalty of ten points was imposed in November, but this was later reduced.

The Toffees were then docked another two points in April.

In the end they managed to avoid relegation, with Sean Dyche taking them to 15th place, four points ahead of relegation.
