Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto is negotiating with other clubs ahead of the expiration of his contract at the end of the month.

The 32-year-old has spent the entirety of his career at Barcelona and has played 373 first-team matches for the club since making his debut in November 2010.

This is the first summer that the versatile player is listening offers from other clubs, with Barcelona’s Catalan rivals Girona among the clubs who have registered an interest.

Roberto’s priority has always been to remain at Barcelona but is open to an exit this summer as his environment believe the club’s negotiations to keep him have not been acceptable.

Barcelona club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are understood to have informed the former Spain international that he would have his contract renewed but no offer has yet arrived.

Indeed, Roberto has only received a verbal pre-agreement from Barcelona which would include a clause that would allow the club to release him as a free agent in mid August if they do not have economic capacity for him within their squad.

Roberto has lowered his salary in each of his most recent two contract extensions but his continuation beyond this summer remains uncertain.
