Gareth Southgate's future as England manager has been a major topic of conversation this summer as Euro 2024 progresses.

After reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals in the world cup just like him Euro Cup Final Four years ago, Southgate's record is impressive.

However, there is one thing missing from his reign: titles.

And another failed attempt to win an international trophy could spell the end of the 53-year-old's time as… England manager…

Southgate has admitted he is likely to step down as manager of the country if his team fail to win. Euro 2024.

“If we don't win, I probably won't be here anymore,” he told German newspaper Bild.

“So maybe it’s the last chance. I think about half of the national coaches leave after a tournament; that’s the nature of international football.

“I've been here almost eight years and we've gotten closer. You can't constantly be in front of the audience and say, 'A little more, please,' because at some point people lose faith.

“If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top-level coach, we have to live up to the important moments.”

Things became especially difficult after England's 0-0 draw against Slovenia.

Southgate was booed and had plastic cups thrown at him.

After the match, he told the media that he had lost his fans.

He said: “Our world is different right now and I think it's probably because of me.

“I'm not going to change that, so there's no point in spending energy on it.”

“But I'm not going to back down. I understand the feeling towards me, but I want the fans to support the players.”

So it seems Southgate's future as England manager will depend on whether the Three Lions win the European Championship in Germany this summer.

If they do, they could still be in charge of the World Cup 2026but if they lose it again, there is there is likely to be a change.
