Barcelona defends Michael Faye he was heavily linked with an exit from the club in recent weeks, with Porto in talks for him. That deal appears to have been cancelled, but it may only be a temporary arrangement.
Faye had agreed terms with Porto, and Barcelona they demanded €15 million for the Senegalese defender, who cost them just €2.2 million from NK Kustosija the previous summer. With Porto unable to respond to his demands, however, the deal seemed to have fizzled out. However, Athletic reports that the deal is still expected to go through – it's just stalled due to Porto's cash flow problems. Once they are settled, the idea is that Faye will make the move.

Barcelona has a large number of central defenders on their books, currently at eight, and as one of the easiest to make a profit, it will not be surprising if Faye is sacrificed to alleviate their financial problems. While this could be a huge missed opportunity, it is necessary for the Blaugrana, and Faye has not necessarily undermined their chances of immediate success.
