Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga is set to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of a season-long loan move to Sevilla.

The 24-year-old’s loan will include an option to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of €12m (£10m).

If Sevilla activate the purchase option, Arsenal will keep a 25% sell-on clause of any future move Lokonga makes.

Fiorentina were prepared to make a superior offer but the player only wanted Sevilla and his preference proved decisive.

The Belgium international, who spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Luton Town, wanted to move to Spain.

Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in the summer of 2021, going on to make 39 appearances for the north London club.

He spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira, where he amde nine appearances.

He scored one goal and provided three assists for Luton but was unable to help his side stave off relegation to the Championship.

The Athletic previously reported that Sevilla had a firm interest in signing the midfielder.
