Barcelona lose top pivot target as Aston Villa swoop in with £50m bid

Barcelona are determined to sign a top-class pivot this summer, as it is an area where they were sorely lacking last season. They may struggle to make a cash move because they have to prioritize Nico Williams, and now it seems they are willing to miss out on one of their primary targets.

As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic (via MD), Aston Villa are in advanced negotiations with Everton over a deal for Amadou Onana. A fee of £50m has been discussed between the two Premier League clubs, and personal terms have already been finalized with the Belgium international.

Barcelona will not have the chance to make a late bid for Onana, given the finances that will be involved. Now, it seems more plausible that they will aim to sign Williams for big money, with a low-cost pivot also added to the mix for coach Hansi Flick.
