Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are just five of several clubs interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
As reported by Bild, the Dutchman’s €40m release clause expires this week, meaning Bayer 04 are powerless to the Dutchman’s potential departure. But during Sky Germany’s ‘Transfer Update’ show, they further add that Frimpong wants to leave the club, even if it’s after the player’s release clause expires.
Liverpool are another club that has shown an interest in Frimpong, who was an integral member of Xabi Alonso’s historic Bayer Leverkusen side that completed the domestic double unbeaten, as well as reaching the Europa League final.
Frimpong joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 for €11m, and has scored 25 and created 32 in 142 games across all competitions since his move from Celtic. But excelling under Alonso, the Dutchman has contributed to 42 goals (21 goals and 21 assists) in 83 games under the Spaniard, which has aroused interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Should no club activate the player’s €40m release clause by the expiry date, Bayer Leverkusen will be free to negotiate a considerable transfer fee for one of their star players.
