Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly look to sign Brentford ace Ivan Toney this summer, according to transfer well-informed person Dean Jones.
After finishing fifth in the Premier league In Ange Postecoglou's debut season as manager, the Lilywhites are said to be keen to bolster the squad in this transfer window as they continue their rebuild under the Australian's guidance.
Spurs have already strengthened their squad with the addition of Archie Gray from Leeds United, but in addition to that, Postecoglou is reportedly keen to bring in new faces in attack and defence.
Talking about the Ranking FC Podcast, Jones has reported that there is a possibility that Richarlison could leave this summer and that is why Tottenham are planning to sign a new centre-forward.
The journalist also claims that Santiago Giménez and Jonathan David are the options on Tottenham's wish list, but Toney is also on their radar. Jones says Spurs are willing to buy Toney for a fee under £40m and if they succeed, it will be a smart signing for them.
Toney to Tottenham
Jones said:
“It still seems possible that Richarlison will leave Tottenham. There has been talk of Santi Gimenez and Jonathan David, they are on the list, but Ivan Toney is also there. If they can sign him, according to them, for less than £40m, I don’t think it would be a bad idea for Tottenham at all.”
Toney has entered the final year of his current contract and is not willing to renew his contract with Brentford in order to take the next step in his career.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United Tottenham players had already expressed interest in signing him, but they have all apparently cooled down. Therefore, Tottenham may have a clear path to secure his signature this summer.
Toney has already proven his goalscoring ability in the Premier League over the past few years and would therefore be an excellent acquisition for Postecoglou's side if they were to buy him.
However, it will be interesting to see if the North London club ultimately opt to bolster their attacking department by signing the Englishman in this transfer window.
