Barcelona worried by the threat of Paris Saint-Germain as the pursuit of Nico Williams reaches its peak
Nico Williams has returned home to Bilbao, and therefore, a decision is expected soon on his future. Athletic Club are desperate to retain his services for at least one more season, while Barcelona are pushing to sign him – and they have already secured a contract agreement with the player's agent.
Barcelona are ready and willing to pay Williams' release clause, valued at €58 million, and once the 22-year-old gives his notice, they will proceed to do so. However, the owners of the club are threatened by the presence of Paris Saint-Germain, which has appeared as a serious candidate to secure the services of Williams.

Ace for MD, Barcelona are taking PSG's interest in Williams very seriously, as they believe the reigning Ligue 1 champions could tempt the Euro 2024 winner – due to the financial package they can offer, and his strongest place in the Champions League. At PSG, Williams would be the replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who left earlier this summer to join Real Madrid.
Barcelona they hope they have done enough to convince Williams, having already convinced his agent. The lure of staying in Spain, as well as playing alongside close friends in Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, could be enough to not only beat PSG, but also tempt him away from boyhood club Athletic.
