The former Manchester United striker has spent the last two campaigns away from Chelsea, spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Inter Milan, before a season away at Rome deadline.

He took the opportunity to welcome the possible signing of Osimhen and lashed out at Belgium's all-time top scorer, saying: “Good luck to Romelu.”

And he didn't stop there, going on to claim that Lukaku is not just the Blues' The player is not only the worst signing in history, but also ranks among the worst signings for any team in Premier League history.

“Romelu Lukaku is the worst signing in Chelsea’s history. I think Romelu Lukaku is interesting, actually, if you think about the worst Premier League signings of all time.”

He then pointed out Lukaku's apparent lack of success in both Man Unitedwhich he represented between 2017 and 2019, and then during his second spell at Chelsea, which he rejoined in 2021, after having been in the club's squad between 2011 and 2014.

Jennings continued: “Think about the worst signings in the Premier League, whoever they are. I think if you made a top ten list, Romelu Lukaku would be on it twice.

“That's how poor it is. That's how bad it is.”

Lukaku joined Manchester United for £75m and scored 46 goals in 92 appearances for the club, but failed to win any silverware while at Old Trafford.

After swapping Old Trafford for Inter de Milan and leading the club to the 2021 Serie A title, the Belgium international rejoined Chelsea for a club-record fee of £97.5million.

Despite his hefty price tag, he managed just eight Premier League goals in 26 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, with Jennings criticising the striker's lack of professionalism during his second spell at the club.

Referring to a explosive interview with Sky Italia in 2021 in which Lukaku criticised the then Blues boss Thomas Tuchel“He was so bad on the pitch, but he was also so bad in the way he behaved,” the talkSPORT pundit continued.

“Do you remember what happened? He went to Italy and gave an unauthorized interview.

“Everything was going so well that he just went to do an interview in Italy with Sky Italia and basically said: 'I wish I was playing in Italy. I wish I wasn't playing for Chelsea.'”

With Lukaku having not worn blue since burning his ships at the end of a tumultuous first and only campaign back in the capital, Jennings ended with a damning verdict.

He added: “He would be in the worst XI in Chelsea's history.

“Romelu Lukaku and Chris Sutton. They're not going to score many goals. They're not scoring many goals, those two. It would be the worst Chelsea XI of all time.”
