Romano confirms De Ligt is awaiting transfer to Man Utd
Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt is still determined to sign, according to Fabrizio Romano Manchester United During this summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have made two signings this summer, Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, and are likely to make further additions to the squad before the transfer deadline on August 30. GivemesportRomano revealed that Manchester United recently met with the agent of Bayern right-back Noussair Mazraoui to discuss personal terms.
Rafaela Pimenta, who is also De Ligt's agent, confirmed that the Dutch international is still waiting for United and wants to join them, she said: “I can tell you that during the meetings they had with Mazraoui’s agent to discuss Mazraoui’s contract.
“Manchester United also received confirmation from Matthijs de Ligt about his plan in the last few days. Even though a month has passed, De Ligt is still waiting for Manchester United. De Ligt wants to go to Manchester United. De Ligt confirms the agreement on personal terms with Manchester United.”
Possible agreement
United are focused on signing a new right-back. They have already agreed personal terms with Mazraoui and a move could be finalised as soon as Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaves. West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign Wan-Bissaka and are close to a deal, according to sources. Sky sports.
Once Mazraoui makes the move, United could then focus on signing De Ligt from Bayern. There is currently a difference in valuation between the clubs. The Red Devils' initial offer of £29.5 million did not reach the asking price of £42 million, but United could find a solution by getting rid of one of their centre-backs.
Victor Lindelof looks the most likely candidate to leave. The Swede has entered the final year of his contract with the Red Devils and the board could approve his sale to recoup the additional funds needed to secure the transfer of De Ligt, who has already agreed personal terms on a long-term deal with United.
De Ligt would be a fabulous signing for the Red Devils. He is a ball-playing centre-back who also possesses good aerial presence. The Dutchman is not afraid of making difficult tackles and could fit perfectly into the coaching team. Erik the Hag's plans, as he previously played with him at Ajax.
