Barcelona close to an agreement with Manchester City for Joao Cancelo after a new proposal
Barcelona is João Cancelo both have publicly stated an interest in reuniting for the coming season, and appear to be nearing a conclusion of negotiations with Manchester City. The city received several offers for Cancelo, but with the Portuguese firmly returning only to Barcelona, they were forced to negotiate again.
The 30-year-old is willing to take a significant pay cut to make a loan move, and Sport say that an agreement between Barcelona and City is “very close”. It would be a loan move with the obligation to buy, and they refer to a previously reported proposal revealed by the Daily Star. His information is that, with Jorge Mendes leading discussions on behalf of Barcelona, he had suggested a loan fee of 8.3 million euros and Barcelona took care of his salary. The following summer, Barcelona paid 21.3 million euros for Cancelo.

Given their financial woes, it seems remarkable that Barcelona are willing to commit to what amounts to nearly €30 million for a player who will turn 31 next summer. More so, when you consider his performances last season. Cancelo has shown his quality in fits and bursts, especially in the early months of the season, but has been dramatically exposed in Barcelona's two biggest games of the season against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
