Joshua Kimmich on his Bayern Munich future amid PSG interest

Over the course of the summer transfer window, Joshua Kimmich and Bayern Munich’s fractured relationship has been well documented.

This has led to reports of the German international looking for a route out of Bavaria. However, thus far, only Paris Saint-Germain has made their interest clear to Der Rekordmeister in obtaining Kimmich’s services.

Nevertheless, a separation between the former RB Leipzig midfielder and the record champions is not a guarantee. Bayern are keen on discussing a potential new deal with Kimmich, whose contract is set to expire in 2025.

Speaking after Bayern’s 2-1 pre-season victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Kimmich stated that he is interested in discussing a new deal with Bayern.

“In general, you can always talk to each other sensibly. I think all doors are open for everyone. I feel very comfortable here. All my children were born here; we built here.”

Against Spurs, Kimmich was deployed in a much more familiar central position alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic by Vincent Kompany. Having been forced to play at right back at the end of Thomas Tuchel’s reign at Bayern, Kimmich is hoping to move back into the centre of the park, which could be a deciding factor in remaining in Munich.

Regardless, the 29-year-old will have to face competition from those within Bayern’s midfield, but he states that he is up for the challenge.

“I am very hungry and full of energy for the new season. In general, we have a lot of good players in that position. Let’s see how it all pans out in the end.”
