As reported by Simon Collings of the Evening Standard, West Ham United are in 'advanced talks' to sign midfielder Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer.
Fabrizio Romano on Twitter He added that Rodriguez is currently on his way to London for his medical, so as long as there are no late complications, this transfer is likely to be completed soon.
Who is Guido Rodriguez?
Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Guido Rodríguez began his senior career at River Plate but, after making just 18 appearances for La Banda, he moved to the north of Mexico, first spending a season at Club Tijuana, before a £6m move to Liga MX side Club América.
Over three seasons with the Eagles, he made 123 appearances and won two major trophies, before making the leap across the Atlantic to Real Betis, spending four seasons with the Verdiblancos, making 173 appearances and winning the Copa del Rey, starting in the 2022 final on penalties over Valencia at the Estadio de La Cartuja.
At international level, since making his debut for Argentina at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during a Superclásico de las Américas clash with Brazil in 2017, Rodríguez has amassed 30 caps.
He was a key figure in Argentina's 2021 Copa América victory, also starting in the win over Italy in the Final at Wembley, while he only made one appearance in Argentina's World Cup triumph, but of course left Qatar with a priceless champion's medal.
This summer it was a similar story, with Rodriguez only enjoying a solitary 13-minute cameo in Argentina's six-match Copa America win in the United States, but the tough, disciplined defensive midfielder will undoubtedly be a key figure in east London.
