Contrary to reports, there are no contact between Crystal Palace and Wolfsburg for the transfer of Maxence Lacroix. This comes after L’Équipe reported that the Premier League side had entered negotiations with VfL to sign the French defender, who has 12 months remaining on his current deal.
According to Kicker, this report came as a surprise in the Wolfsburg camp as no one has contacted the management team: managing director Peter Christiansen and sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz.
However, it’s known that Lacroix would be open to leaving the club. The Frenchman revealed in April that he had spoken to Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner on the phone. The 24-year-old, who has a contract at VfL until 2025, played 36 games under Glasner during their time together in Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg eye Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg
Should Lacroix leave the club this summer, then Wolfsburg will look to sign Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg as a replacement. Despite featuring prominently in the pre-season for Liverpool, van den Berg does not want to sit on the bench and wants to stay in the Bundesliga. However, VfL also face competition from Mainz, Stuttgart and Hoffenheim for the 22-year-old.
