According to the Turkish media Nut, Arsenal have submitted an initial bid to sign Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu this summer.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with the Gunners at the start of the transfer window. The club was It was reported that he had agreed to personal terms with the Turkish international.
Nut Now, media outlets claim that Arsenal have submitted an initial bid of £17m for the 24-year-old. Borussia Dortmund have also submitted a similar transfer offer for the versatile defender.
Fenerbahce are not interested in selling at that price and are currently asking for £30m, which would be a transfer record for a player bought from the Super Lig.
Unlikely agreement
Kadioglu started his career as a striker. He was comfortable playing both on the wing and in an attacking midfield role. However, he has since transformed into a regular defender. The right-footed star can play in both full-back positions, but feels most secure playing on the left.
This is a position Arsenal are well covered for. Oleksandr Zinchenko started in this position against Bayer Leverkusen, but Riccardo Calafiori, Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu can also play in that position. There is also Kieran Tierney, who is out with a long-term thigh injury.
Given this, we don't see the Gunners signing Dutch-born Kadioglu. The speculation could have been started by his agent to get other European clubs, including Dortmund, to approach the Istanbul outfit's demands.
Arsenal are unlikely to make any further defensive signings during the current transfer window. The focus could be on strengthening their midfield and centre forward this month. Real Sociedad's Mikel Merino looks the most likely to sign a midfielder. Midfield Objective #1 For the North London giants.
The Gunners are not close to signing any strikers, but the scenario could change if Eddie Nketiah leaves for Marseille. The French giants have sent a new transfer offer to Arsenal for the 25-year-old, which has opened the door for a transfer.
