De Ligt will still have to undergo a medical before the move becomes official, but will sign a five-year contract with the option for another year.

The Dutch centre-back previously played with Erik the Hag at Ajax, before joining Juventus and later Bayern.

Ten Hag spoke about the signing of De Ligt earlier this summer, saying: AD Sportwereld:''We will still have to wait and see if De Ligt will come.

“But the good thing is that during my vacation I was out of the process for three or four weeks.

“During that period, it was really the club, the newly created scouting and recruiting department, that brought these players in.

“The fact that there are also Dutch players among them is actually a coincidence. These are mainly players who were signed by our organisation.

“But of course I support them, let's be clear, and we still made the decision together.”

United have already signed Leny Yoro from Lille for around £52m, but he will miss the start of the season through injury.

Next on Manchester United's list is Bayern full-back Noussair Mazraoui, but that depends on the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Red Devils have agreed a £15million fee with West Ham but negotiations over a deal between Wan-Bissaka and United are still ongoing.

He is likely to have a medical at the London club on Sunday or Monday.

The England Under-21 international moved to Old Trafford in 2019 from Crystal Place in a deal worth £50million.

Since then he has made 190 appearances for United, winning the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson reveals Manchester United 'should have failed PSR' but were given one-off allocations unlike the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest

But he has fallen down the pecking order with Diego Dalot currently the first choice under Erik ten Hag.

Wan-Bissaka was limited to just 22 Premier League appearances last season.
