Joshua Kimmich will play in midfield under Vincent Kompany

Over the summer, there has been considerable speculation regarding Joshua Kimmich’s future at Bayern Munich.

While at one point it seemed as though the German international was destined to leave Bavaria, it now appears as though there is a future for the 29-year-old at the Allianz Arena.

With Thomas Tuchel no longer in the Bayern dugout, Kimmich has been able to prove his worth in the middle of the park to new head coach Vincent Kompany.

In the past 12 months, the 29-year-old has made it quite clear that he does not see himself playing at right back long-term, as reports of a move to PSG suggested this would be his only option in doing so.

Regardless, Kimmich recently commented on how Kompnay has informed him of his desire to utilise him in midfield, something that Max Eberl also agrees with.

Speaking to Bild, Bayern’s director of sport spoke about Kimmich’s future under Kompany:

“You plan something in advance. It was clear to us that Josh would end up in the middle again. We gave it some thought.”

Undoubtedly, the relationship between Kimmich and Bayern has not been magically repaired, but should the former RB Leipzig midfielder begin to enjoy his football again under Kompany, then a contract extension may become more of a reality.
