Why Désiré Doué rejected Bayern Munich for PSG

When Xavi Simons rejected Bayern Munich earlier in the transfer window, while there was undoubted frustration from Bayern’s perspective, it was not considered a disaster.

After all, Simons was used to life in Leipzig, and with it only being a loan move, there was a feeling among those in charge at Bayern that they could make a serious attempt to lure the Dutchman to the Allianz Arena on a permanent transfer in 2025.

However, as well as this, there was the sense that a deal for Stade Rennes winger Désiré Doué was imminently close to being completed.

Nevertheless, for a second time this summer, Der Rekordmeister were rejected, this time for Paris Saint-Germain.

This has left Michael Olise as Bayern’s only attacking signing during the transfer window, as Serge Gnabry has been forced to come back into the fold at the Allianz Arena.

But why did Désiré Doué reject Bayern?

According to Fabrizio Romano (via CaughtOffside), Doué elected to turn down a move to Bavaria for a number of reasons.

It is understood that the project the Parisians showcased to Doué significantly impressed him, while he also appreciated the commitment of Luis Enrique, Luis Campos, and Nasser Al Khelaifi, who were all involved in the transfer talks.

As well as this, remaining in France, where the 19-year-old felt comfortable and confident, was also important in ensuring he signed for PSG.

The combination of sporting ambition and a homely environment was key to PSG getting the deal over the line.

Therefore, it is a huge loss for Bayern, but with plans already in place for 2025, will the record champions come out on top in twelve months time?
