According to the Portuguese media Record, Arsenal have held talks with Sporting Lisbon over the possibility of signing Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners have signed just two players, David Raya (on a permanent loan) and Riccardo Calafiori this summer, but there should be more arrivals before the transfer deadline August 30th.
There has been a lot of talk about the club signing a new striker for some time and Record The Gunners have been in informal talks with Sporting in recent weeks over a possible move for Gyokeres.
However, Sporting have made it clear that they will not accept anything less than the £86m release clause to part ways with the striker.
Must sign
Arsenal finished just 2 points behind the leaders Manchester City For the Premier League title. They had a magnificent second half of the season, but suffered only one defeat against Aston Villa which in the end turned out to be costly.
The club also had terrible performances against Newcastle UnitedFulham and West Ham United were not up to par in the final third of the match. A striker like Gyokeres could make the difference in attack.
The Swede was outstanding for Sporting last season, with 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 games. He was brilliant with his goals and ability to create chances and would be a perfect signing for the London giants.
The big question is whether the club can afford to sign him. The Gunners seem to be concerned about PSR's spending limits and recently signed Riccardo Calafiori. after agreeing to the sale Emile Smith-Rowe.
The club are currently relying on Eddie Nketiah's departure to secure Mikel Merino. The club may need another high-profile departure in the coming days to be able to afford the signing of Gyokeres from the Portuguese champions.
Arsenal must be quick with the process as Sporting may not be willing to negotiate payment terms unless they have time to find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes on August 30.
