Bruno Fernandes signs a new contract with Manchester United and becomes one of the highest-paid players at the club
The Manchester United captain has signed a lucrative new contract to become one of the club's highest earners at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese international has extended his stay at the Theatre of Dreams until 2027 with the option of a further year.
talkSPORT understands that his new package will give him parity with Marcus Rashford as the club's highest-earning player, with a salary of around £350,000 a week.
Fernandes' previous salary was thought to be around £220,000-a-week, meaning United have offered him a significant pay rise.
This comes after the team was forced to accept a 25 percent pay cut as a result of failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Expressing his delight at his new contract, the 30-year-old told the club website“Everyone knows how passionate I am about Manchester United.
“I understand the responsibility and importance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club.
“I have already experienced many special moments here: hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights and lifting trophies at Wembley.
“But I wouldn't have signed this contract if I didn't believe that my best times in a United shirt were still to come.
“From my conversations with the leaders and the football manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for important trophies in the coming years.
“I see the future looking very positive and I'm looking forward to leading this team forward.”
Fernandes, who turns 30 next month, has lifted the Carabao Cup and FA Cup as United captain.

He had been linked with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, as well as moves to the Saudi Pro League, but his new deal ends speculation over his future this summer.
And United sporting director Dan Ashworth has been full of praise for the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder, saying he epitomises everything United stands for.
He commented: “Bruno has played at a very high level and with remarkable consistency since arriving at Manchester United.
“He is a brilliant leader, driving daily standards and inspiring players and staff to perform at the highest level every day.

Since joining the Red Devils from Sporting in a deal worth £68m in January 2020, Fernandes has contributed 79 goals in 234 games in all competitions.
