Barcelona have almost given up hope of signing Nico Williams this summer, with the 22-year-old starting the 2024-25 La Liga season with Athletic Club on Thursday night. This meant that alternatives are now being pursued, and one of those is Liverpool's Luis Diaz.

Diaz is the favorite option of Deco, the sporting director of Barcelona. Earlier this week, it was reported that he had “reactivated” the operation, following the interest in the Colombian winger earlier in the summer, which was abandoned due to the pursuit of Williams.
However, Deco's dreams seem to be dying. MD they reported that Barcelona expected to be unable to sign Diaz this summer for financial reasons. Can Barca officials believe that Liverpool's price is greater than the valuation that has been set to sign a new left winger – which is believed to be €55-60m. It would be even higher than the 62 million euros it takes to sign Williams.
This must be a blessing in disguise for Barcelona. Diaz is a good player, but not worth the money Liverpool are quoting, when you take into account their financial woes, and the wages/goal quality of the player. It would definitely be better if the money was spent on a low-cost option, or saved altogether for next summer.
