Arsenal They are reportedly looking for Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, according to the transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

After making David Raya's loan move permanent, the Gunners have signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to bolster their defensive department. Mikel ArtetaThe team have been working on signing a new midfielder and are said to be close to signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.

However, it has been widely reported that the north London club are also interested in signing a new prolific goalscorer and a host of names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks.

Now, Jacobs (through Team talk) reports that Arsenal were interested in signing Gyokeres earlier this summer but following his knee surgery, they opted to cool their interest in him, but since he is back to full fitness, the Gunners have rekindled their interest in signing him.

The Swedish international has a release clause of more than £80m, but the Lions are willing to let him go for a fee of at least £50m. Arsenal can therefore secure his signature for a reduced fee if they go ahead with this deal.

Gyokeres joins Arsenal

However, the journalist says Gyokeres is not the only option on Arsenal's wishlist, with Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez and Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Evan Ferguson also on it.

But Mikel Arteta's side are unlikely to sign any strikers unless they make use of some of their current attacking options with Eddie Nketiah linked with a possible exit from the club.

Having moved to the Estadio José Alvalade from Coventry City last summer, Gyokeres demonstrated his goalscoring prowess for the Lions last season, scoring 43 goals and registering 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

The 26-year-old was one of Europe's most prolific strikers last season and, having previously played for Coventry, Gyokeres is no stranger to English football. So if Arsenal are successful in landing him, it would be a huge coup.

He is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient at holding up play, possesses a hunter's instinct inside the box, can link play and also works extremely hard out of possession.

It will be interesting to see if the North London club ultimately opt to sign the Sporting star before the end of this window to bolster their attacking department.
