kicker reports that VfB Stuttgart’s search for a centre-back continues as centre-back Loïc Badé, who the club has most recently been linked to, is too expensive.
Reports in France said that a deal had been agreed between Stuttgart and Sevilla and that Badé would move to the MHP Arena for €20m, but those reports are false.
On the reports, Stuttgart director Fabian Wohlegemuth said:
“Unfortunately, I can’t say anything about what is being written in Spain, It is known that we would like to implement something in the defensive unit if the right opportunity arises for us. We are working on a number of issues and want to implement them by the end of the transfer period.”
Stuttgart are still searching for their replacement for Waldemar Anton who joined Borussia Dortmund earlier in the transfer window. Jeff Chabot and Anthony Rouault were at times unconvincing against Bayer Leverkusen in the Super Cup and so VfB need reinforcements.
However, it will unlikely be a permanent signing. Stuttgart has already spent nearly €50m on Ermedin Demirovic and Deniz Undav this summer and so cannot really afford another big defensive signing. On top of this, Stuttgart still have options in defence once Dan-Axel Zagadou fully recovers from his ligament injury as well as summer signing Ramon Hendriks.
