Jamie Carragher is pleading with players to stop signing for Chelsea, suggesting they will run out of space on the training ground.
The Blues have already signed nine new players this summer and a No. 10 is believed to be on the way.
That deal will be to bring João Félix back to Stamford Bridge after… Agreeing a deal worth £42.6m plus extras to return on a six-year contract.
Chelsea left 23 first-team players out of his squad for the weekend's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, a clear indication of how bloated the squad currently is.
However, they are doing everything they can to simultaneously trim the squad with Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku. It was left out of the day's program list of players called up for the clash against City.
But that is just the tip of the iceberg of Enzo Maresca's current overcrowding problem, something that has clearly left Carragher angry.
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football programme, Carragher said: “Chelsea have to stop signing players and players have to stop signing for Chelsea.
“If I were a player, I don't know why I would look at that project and sign. The only reason you would sign is because your agent tells you 'you're going to get a seven-year contract for a lot of money, it's guaranteed money.'”
“You know what I say? Rely on yourself as a player. Sign a four-year contract at a decent club and trust that you will do well and then when it comes time to renew, your money will increase anyway.
“I don’t understand why players sign seven-year contracts.”
Responding to David Jones saying players might want to be part of the Chelsea project, Carragher replied: “Part of what? It's not a young, exciting team.
“You bought João Félix, right? Tell me where he's going to play.”
“They already signed Neto a week ago. Where is he going to play when you already have Cole Palmer?
“Where does Enzo Fernandez, a £100m player, play? Where does Nkunku play?”
“Great football teams need competition, but in every team I played for there were seven or eight players who knew they would play every week.
“Then you have six or seven players fighting for three positions, then you have another six or seven who know they are team players; that's a healthy team.
“You're asking me where João Félix is going to play. Do you know what I want to ask you? Where is he going to change at the training ground? I'm very serious.
“If you have 40 players, how is everyone in a locker room? How do you organize a training session? How do you create that cohesion?”

Chelsea will compete on four fronts this season: the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, in addition to the Europa Conference League.
But while a full squad will be needed to cope with the hectic fixture schedule, there is no doubt that fans will be keen to see the reduced squad before the end of the summer transfer window.
