Such is the large number of people who The club has been urged to stop recruiting. To avoid Expansion of the training group's changing rooms..

Chelsea were forced to exclude players worth more than £500m from his match day team during their 2-0 loss to City of man.

That hasn't stopped the west Londoners from working on their tenth new arrival this summer alone, with João Félix, about to sign.

Chelsea They have split up the groups at their Cobham training complex to cope with the wide variety of options and have approved a number of loans.

So the question remains as to how many players the Blues actually use. talkSPORT.com looks into the matter…

How many players does Chelsea have?

Chelsea have no fewer than 54 senior stars currently under contract.

To be fair to the club, eight of those players are on loan, but there are still a further 46 who will need to report to Cobham for some form of training.

In his explanation of The absence of Raheem Sterling against City, the Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca wrongly stated It was because he had 30 players.

That was the figure Chelsea revealed in their programme for Sunday's match, but there were caveats.

The Blues have 33 players listed in their senior ranks on their club website, but again that is 13 fewer than actually count.

What is the Premier League squad size limit?

Chelsea will have to present a squad of 25 players after the summer window officially closes Friday, August 30th.

Eight of those players must be classed by the Premier League as homegrown players, which, crucially, does not necessarily mean they are of British nationality.

Danny Murphy says Cole Palmer's 9-year Chelsea contract is 'crazy' and a massive 'gamble' that could backfire

However, the HGP criteria count as such any player who has spent three years in the academy of an English club before turning 21.

There is no limit on registering Under-21 stars, which covers eight Chelsea first-team players who do not have to be ruled out.

This reduces the number from 46 to 38, with only 28 chosen for the club's recent pre-season tour.

At that stage, América didn't even have any of its Euro/Copa América stars or Pedro Neto, so work is definitely needed.

Chelsea have also used five of their six international loan spots to deal with their backlog of young talent.

This puts more emphasis on non-local players looking to leave, and purchase obligations still count as a loan deal.

Decisions will need to be made regarding the future of up to 15 players.

Who are the lucky 46?

Chelsea's attempts to hide the size of their squad largely come down to players the club are desperate to get rid of.

That includes big-money failures. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Romelu Lukakuwho have no future at the club but are still under contract.

Academy graduates Chelsea are also willing to sell to stay within the rules of financial fair play they have been given a marginally kinder fate.

Maresca admitted on the eve of the season that he had 15 players training separately, of which 28 participated in his sessions.

Goalkeepers (9)

Mike Penders is close to becoming Chelsea's tenth goalkeeper in a £17million move that will see him loaned back to parent club Genk.

Academy goalkeepers Eddie Beach, Ted Curd and Luke Campbell are also all out on loan respectively but are tied to youth player deals.

But as things stand, the six still at Chelsea are…

Defenders (15)

Chelsea decided to reinforce this department first this summer, with Tosin Adarabioyo arriving by free transfer from Fulham.

Three of their defenders are already on loan, and youngster Bashir Humphreys will leave for Burnley with obligation to purchase.

That still leaves ten current options to slot into Maresca's back four, and Chelsea will be hoping to trim them down further with A way out for Ben Chilwell.

Midfielders (15)

Chelsea have reached Maresca's 30-man quota with just defenders and midfielders, such is the depth of talent at their disposal.

Only two of them are on loan: Lesley Ugochukwu remains in the Premier League and Andrey Santos at sister club Strasbourg.

Midfield is one of the areas most scrutinised, given the combined fee of £205m it cost to sign Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández.

Gallagher, as mentioned, will spearhead the midfield exodus, but Chelsea still saw fit to spend £30m on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

  • Enzo Fernandez

Wingers/wide players (9)

In a regular team, most of the following players would split up to be included as midfielders or forwards.

But Chelsea can field a full starting XI with players competing for the two open attacking roles in Maresca's 4-3-3 formation.

That includes £17.5m Kendry Paezand £56m Estevao Willianwho have been omitted from this list because they will not formally join Chelsea until the summer of 2025.

Once they do, competition will become even fiercer and few of the current options will be close to being out of the gate at this point.

Chelsea have at least managed to send Diego Moreira and Mason Burstow permanently to Strasbourg and City of Hull respectively.

  • Raheem Sterling PGH
  • Mykhailo Mudryk
  • Noni Madueke PGH

Lukaku is almost certain to leave before the deadline, but Chelsea already have a new striker with the signing of Felix.

Despite this, the forward line of attack is where the club will hope to free up as much space as possible.

Only Nicholas Jackson He's almost guaranteed to stay in September, and loan interest is being considered for Deivid Washington and Marc Guiu.

The remaining two, David Datro Fofana and Armando Broja, are training separately from the main group and are looking for transfers.
