West Ham United are reportedly “pushing” hard to sign PSG star Carlos Soler before next week's deadline, according to the transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Hammers have decided to revamp their squad after signing Julen Lopetegui as their new manager, replacing David Moyes. They have already strengthened their defence and attack, but Guido Rodriguez has been their only midfield addition so far this summer.
The east London club are therefore apparently considering signing a new midfielder before the deadline and Soler is emerging as their top target.
Writing about unknown, Plettenberg has reported that West Ham are 'pushing' to attract the Spaniard to the London Stadium and have already held 'the first concrete talks' with PSG.
The journalist further claims that Lopetegui's side are looking to spend a fee of around £20m for Soler and plan to seal the deal on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Soler joins West Ham
Plettenberg wrote:
“West Ham are continuing to consider the possibility of signing Carlos Soler until the last day of the year. Initial concrete discussions have taken place but no agreement has yet been reached. I understand that WHUFC are pushing for a loan with an obligation to buy. In the range of £20m all-in.”
Although Soler has not had a great time at the Parc des Princes in recent years, he is a talented player and would be an excellent acquisition for the Hammers to strengthen their squad if they buy him.
The former Valencia star has great technique and is comfortable playing in a possession system, which Lopetegui is looking to implement. He also has a good eye for long-distance passing.
However, considering West Ham already have a good midfield squad, Lopetegui might struggle to provide playing time for all of them and keep them happy if Soler also joins the club, especially considering they have no European football this season.
Meanwhile, Lopetegui has suffered a disappointing defeat against Aston Villa at its opening Premier League a fixture as West Ham manager.
The Spanish manager will therefore be desperate to get back to winning ways when his side travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace next weekend.
