Liverpool According to Sky Sports' reporter, the German club are still interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan. Philipp Hinze.

The France Under-21 international was an important player under Marco Rose last season, making 43 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig.

His performances sparked interest from Liverpool, who were linked with the Reds earlier in the summer. According to Hinze, Liverpool remain interested in Simakan with the French defender on their list of targets for the centre-back role.

Simakan is happy at the BayArena but is also open to leaving the club if a deal is reached for his transfer, according to the report.

However, Liverpool could face competition if they make a move, with the German football pundit adding that the 24-year-old is attracting interest from a host of European clubs, particularly Juventus.

While the player is open to leaving, the report adds that there is nothing concrete at the moment between Liverpool or Juventus regarding the potential signing of the Frenchman.

However, things could quickly escalate as Liverpool could look to bolster their defensive line before the window closes with Sepp van den Berg set to join Brentford on a £25m deal.

Simakan still has three years left on his contract with Leipzig. transfer valuation of €35m (£25m) according to Transfer marketso he could be a similar replacement to van den Berg.

Liverpool are interested in Simakan

Liverpool began the 2024-25 campaign with a clean sheet during their 2-0 win over newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road last Saturday.

Their pre-season campaign was also notable defensively, where they conceded just two goals in five pre-season games despite playing against high-profile teams such as Arsenal and Manchester United.

Arne Slot's system seeks to cover a lot of ground in the defensive third, leaving little to no space for opposition attacks.

While this is commendable, having enough personnel in the team should not be compromised, especially when competing in national and European competitions could lead to fatigue and injuries.

The addition of Simakan, one of the best young defenders in Europe, would add adequate depth to the Reds' squad and also ensure they are well covered at right centre-back for years to come.

Liverpool currently have Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Jarell Quansah and Virgil van Dijk as natural centre-backs in the first team.

According to recent reports, Gomez faces an uncertain future at Anfield and a signing for Simakan this summer would make sense if the Englishman follows in van den Berg's footsteps.
