Tomas Soucek saves a ball boy from being crushed by advertising hoardings during West Ham's celebrations at Crystal Palace

Tomas Soucek was quick to intervene after West Ham's celebrations caused an advertising board to fall on a Crystal Palace ball boy.

Chaos ensued after Jarrod Bowen sent the West Ham The visiting fans were thrown into chaos after his second goal, which eventually sealed a 2-0 win for the Hammers at Selhurst Park.

Soucek had put Julen Lopetegui's side ahead just five minutes earlier after a fine move by substitute Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who making his debut with the club.

Soucek immediately realized what had happened and stopped celebrating, bent down and, without any help, took the board from the young man.

It was not an easy action, considering that he had the weight of several fans on top of him, in addition to his teammate Lucas Paqueta who joined the pile without realizing what was happening a few meters away.

However, Soucek managed to get the ball boy out in time, as he and Bowen checked he was okay before he was led off the pitch by Palace staff (the West Ham captain later gifted him his shirt).

Former West Ham defender Scott Minto was covering the game for talkSPORT and described the scenes at Selhurst Park.

“I think the West Ham players handled it very well,” he said.

“Nobody jumped over the fence. It was more the West Ham fans who were so happy that they went towards the front row and because there were so many people leaning on it, the fence fell down.

“There was a ball boy sitting there in his chair and it looked like it fell on him.

“Soucek reached down and tried to pick up the board and told the boy to get away because it might fall on him even more. Jarrod Bowen pulled him aside and talked to him for a while and said, 'Are you okay?'

“Fortunately, everything seemed to be okay in the end.”

That certainly appeared to be the case, as Bowen confirmed after the game that he had spoken to the boy and even given him a gift.

“We managed to get him out as quickly as possible, it was just instinct,” he told the BBC.

“I saw him after the game, he's got my shirt on now and he's smiling. He's doing well, which is good to see.”
