Conor Gallagher is already winning the affection of his new fans after being serenaded by Atletico Madrid fans on his debut.

The English midfielder made his debut for Atletico on Sunday night when they faced Girona at the Wanda Metropolitano, a match they won 3-0.

Although he was initially named as a substitute, Gallagher was introduced just before the hour mark to replace Rodrigo Riquelme.

His introduction was a huge joy for Atlético fans, who had clearly been waiting all night to see their new signing.

With Diego SimeoneWith the team already 2-0 up, Gallagher was introduced on the left-hand side and immediately got the fans on his side by demonstrating his incredible work-rate while closing down the opposition aggressively and putting them under immediate pressure.

Keeping the ball well, the midfielder achieved a 90 percent pass completion rate.

Clearly impressed with what they had seen, footage posted on social media showed Atletico Madrid fans chanting Gallagher's name after a successful first outing.

Gallagher completed his move to Madrid last week in a deal worth £34m.

He was effectively forced out of office. Chelsea after 18 years at the club, a decision that left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans who saw the 24-year-old as one of their own.

Since his move, Gallagher has been embraced by the Chelsea legend. Cesar Azpilicuetaand the midfielder said he is delighted with his move to Spain.

Speaking after his unveiling, Gallagher said: “I've enjoyed every minute of it. I was always confident the deal would go through because of how much I wanted to come to the club and how much the club felt they wanted me, so I knew it was going to happen, but these things take time.

“I'm very happy that it's finally finished.

“All of this excites me a lot: not only playing for this great club, but living in a different country, in a different city, with a different language. All of these things excite me and my partner a lot.”

“I need to learn Spanish quickly and this is something I am looking forward to.

“The culture is very different to London, the way of life, but I love it. All the players have been very friendly. I hope to make friends with all the players.”
