To say that West Ham I've been very busy this summer. transfer “Window” would be an understatement. However, Julen Lopetegui is planning another signing before the final day of the transfer market.
Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) has reported The Hammers are in talks with AS Roma over Tammy Abraham. The Italians are willing to let the former striker go. Chelsea The Manchester United star is set to be the summer signing if a £20m bid is put on the table, the report adds.
A loan deal for the striker with a conditional purchase clause is also not ruled out, although that would require extending his contract in the Italian capital until June 2026.
Abraham was previously a little hesitant about the idea of returning to the Premier League But having played just one minute in Roma's opening game of the campaign, he is now keen to explore that possibility.
Another brilliant signing for West Ham
West Ham have already signed Niklas Fullkrug to play as a striker this summer, but the former Borussia Dortmund striker is yet to score in his first two Premier League games.
There is also no long-term back-up option for Fullkrug and Abraham would fill that role if he were to arrive at the London Stadium before the end of the transfer window.
A cheap transfer fee for a player aged just 26, or the chance to test him on an initial loan deal could also prove attractive to West Ham as it would not put them at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
There is every reason to believe that Abraham can be a success if he returns to England's capital, having already tasted success in the Premier League with Chelsea, as well as being a Champions League Winner in 2021.
Only time will tell if Lopetegui's side can reach an agreement with Abraham, but he would be an excellent addition to the West Ham squad if they can lure him back to England before Friday night's deadline.
