“A defensive midfielder who protects the midfield and also creates plays with precise passes.”

“I think this is a good option.

“This whole transfer window has been a game of poker between United and Paris Saint-Germain.

“But it seems that everything points to Ugarte going to United and trying to fill that gap.”

Mascherano, now retired and coach of the Argentina under-20 team, is considered one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.

He won the Champions League twice, two La Liga titles with Barcelona and two Olympic gold medals with Argentina.

He also made his name in the Premier League with West Ham from 2006 to 2007 and then with Liverpool between 2007 and 2010.

Ugarte, 23, has played 37 games for PSG.
