Pep Guardiola dethrones Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson as Erling Haaland's hat-trick makes history

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made Premier League history with a 3-1 win over West Ham, dethroning Sir Alex Ferguson.

Erling Haaland scored a stunning hat-trick, almost finding the back of the net with his second goal, thus achieving his second consecutive hat-trick.

This result means that Guardiola has not been beaten by West Ham in any of the 17 games he has managed against them.

It is now the most games a manager has faced a specific opponent without losing to them in Premier League history.

Before the clash at the London Stadium, Guardiola had overseen 14 wins and two draws against the Hammers.

And this has now been expanded with an imperious display in East London.

Haaland's treble also made history: it means the club have had more trebles (43) than any other club since 1992, surpassing Liverpool.

The Norwegian has also scored more goals after three Premier League games (7) than any other player.

And in total that's 70 goals in 69 league appearances for the champions.

It could have been a lot worse for West Ham too. Alfonso Areola – substituted at half-time – made several good saves, including a shot that denied him a goal Kevin De Bruyne An impressive goal.

The Belgian also hit the post in the first half before the Hammers gave Manchester City a scare with Jarrod Bowen and Mohamed Kudus Both are ever-present threats.

However, the current Premier League side held off their rivals and helped their manager create history.

Guardiola had a 16-match unbeaten streak alongside the legendary Manchester United manager Mr Alex Ferguson.

The iconic Red Devils manager was unbeaten in 16 meetings with Charlton between 1998 and 2009, winning 14 and drawing two.

Manchester City's victory also had the added benefit of returning them to the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal They missed the opportunity to take an early lead and drew 1-1 with another top team, Brighton.

However, the game was not without controversy. Declan Rice was sent off for two bookable offences.
