Transfer Notebook: Ten Hag transfer target vetoed by Manchester United chiefs, Crystal Palace still face fight to retain Guehi, Southampton sweat over late deal
Marc Guehi's links with a possible exit from Crystal Palace aren't going away anytime soon, and this time there could be competition.
Eagles chairman Steve Parish has been applauded for rejecting Newcastle's advances for Marc Guehi but is prepared for a fresh fight to keep his star defender in January and next summer.
Newcastle were confident of getting Guehi out of Selhurst Park after Submitting a bid worth a club record deal of £70monly for Parish to increase his asking price to £75m at the last minute.
The Eagles' stance was helped by the fact Guehi, who has captained Palace in their first three Premier League games, was not actively lobbying for the move.
However, talkSPORT has learned that Guehi is in no rush to extend his contract, which expires at the end of next season.
Not only does that open the door for Newcastle to come back with a new offer, but it will also put players like Liverpool and Chelsea on alert.
Ten Hag's transfer request rejected
Manchester United boss Erik the Hag The club's new hierarchy prevented them from re-signing Sofyan Amrabat.
Ten Hag made a case to bring back Amrabat, who had a mixed loan spell last season before impressing in the shock FA Cup final win over Manchester CityBut sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox decided to go in a different direction.
talkSPORT understands Everton The possibility of signing the Moroccan international was also explored towards the end of the transfer window, but he has since signed for Fenerbahce on loan from Fiorentina.
United spent £200m on five new faces this summerbringing in Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte, and Ten Hag is understood to be fully on board with Wilcox and Ashworth leading their recruitment after the under-pressure Dutchman took a leading role in previous windows.
I'm still waiting…
Southampton have been left sweating over whether Ajax completed the paperwork to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana in time.
Ajax's board believe they have secured a loan deal just seconds before the Dutch transfer window closed on Monday.
But they are waiting for FIFA's approval to ratify the transfer of the Ghanaian international to Amsterdam.
If completed, a £17m purchase option is included.
Southampton forked out a club-record £22m to sign Sulemana from Rennes in February 2023, but has been a huge disappointment for the club having managed just two goals in 44 appearances.
Wolves star stays put
Arsenal Target Dan Bentley is set to sign a new contract with Wolves.
The Gunners have been interested in signing Bentley throughout the transfer window to help with their quota of homegrown players.
However, Wolves were reluctant to lose Bentley, who is expected to play number two behind new signing Sam Johnstone, ahead of Jose Sa.
Wolves are set to activate Bentley's two-year contract extension, which expires at the end of the season.
