The shortlists for the 2024 Ballon d’Or have been announced, with Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham among the nominees for the men’s award.

Palmer, Foden and Bellingham are joined on the 30-man shortlist by England team-mates Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice.

Foden, who was crowned PFA player of the year last month, is one of four Man City nominees alongside Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias and Rodri.

Arsenal’s William Saliba and Martin Odegaard are also up for the award, taking the total number of representatives from the Premier League to nine.

The women’s Ballon d’Or shortlist is dominated by reigning Champions League holders Barcelona, with no fewer than six nominees, including 2023 winner Aitana Bonmati.

England trio Lucy Bronze, Lauren James, Lucy Bronze and Lauren Hemp are three of seven players hailing from the Women’s Super League.

The winners will be announced in Paris on October 28.

Vinicius Jr is the favourite for the award after winning La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old scored 24 goals and assisted 11 times in 39 matches across all competitions, as he also was named as the Champions League player of the season.

Bellingham, meanwhile, enjoyed a hugely successful debut campaign in a Madrid shirt, scoring 23 goals and assisting 13 times in 43 appearances from midfield.

The 21-year-old won the Spanish league title, as well as the Champions League, with his club and helped guide his country, England, to the European Championship final in Germany.

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi is the current holder of the Ballon d’Or.
